How to Get Jewelry Out of Your Drain

Dropping a beloved piece of a jewelry down the sink can be heartbreaking. Fortunately, in many cases you are able to retrieve your jewelry. Here are a few steps you can take to help retrieve lost items from down your drain.

How to Retrieve Jewelry:

  • Turn off the Water Supply – Before you touch your plumbing system, you’ll want to turn the water off. Turn off your water supply by turning the valve clockwise.
  • Locate the P-Trap – This is the u-shaped part of your plumbing depicted in the image to the right.
  • Clear the Surrounding Area – Place a small bucket underneath the p-track before loosening the area. There will be a lot of gunk, grim and water coming out of the pipe when you loosen it.
  • Loosen the P-Trap – Use adjustable pliers or a wrench to loosen the slip nuts on either end of the p-trap. Use counterclockwise movement to accomplish this. Your jewelry should fall out into your bucket!

Check out this article from Good Housekeeping for more tips on how to get your jewelry out of your drain. If you are still having trouble, give us a call!
