How To Prevent Frozen Plumbing Pipes

Temperatures tend to drop overnight. During the winter months, this can sometimes mean freezing temperatures. Here are a few tips to prevent plumbing problems during cold spells. frozen pipes

Prevention Tips:

  • Remove Outdoor Hoses – If you suspect that the temperature will drop below freezing, remove and drain all of your outdoor hoses. Frozen water can expand and cause your pipes to break!
  • Set Your Thermostat – If you know the weather is going to drop below freezing overnight, keep your thermostat temperature a little bit higher. Low nighttime temperatures might leave you with a higher heating bill, but the extra heat will help you prevent more serious plumbing problems.
  • Let Air Circulate – Are certain rooms in your home colder than others? Keep doors open to allow warmer air to circulate around any exposed plumbing pipes.
