Organized Like a Bigger Shop, Answerable Like a Neighbor
Hiring a plumber in this city usually means choosing between two kinds of work. On one side, a one-truck operation that may do excellent work but has nobody answering the phone while the owner is under a house. On the other, a private-equity-backed chain where the price comes off a script and the recommendation can arrive before the diagnosis does. bluefrog of Portland is built to sit in between: the licensing, scheduling, and warranty structure of a larger company, run by a small local team you can reach personally.
The Houses We Actually Work On
Most of our work is in Portland's older east-side stock: pre-1940 foursquares and Craftsman bungalows with galvanized supply lines rusting shut from the inside and cast-iron waste lines well past their design life. These houses have basements, not slabs, which changes where a leak shows up and how long it hides, so finding a hidden water leak is as much detective work as plumbing. Our water comes from Bull Run and it's soft, so the hardness-and-scale story you read on national plumbing sites doesn't describe Portland at all. Here, water heaters fail on age, sediment, and a spent anode rod. And the mature trees that make these neighborhoods worth living in put roots into old clay laterals every dry August.
